Disqualified driver charged after drugs, firearm seized during vehicle stop at Dubbo, NSW

A man has been charged with multiple drug and firearm-related offences following a vehicle stop in the state’s Orana Region.

About 1pm yesterday (Thursday 15 April 2021), officers attached to the Western Region Enforcement Squad stopped a vehicle outside a home on Catherine Drive, Dubbo, after checks revealed the driver was driving whilst license disqualified.

Police spoke with the driver, a 37-year-old man, and subsequently conducted a search of the man and vehicle.

Officers located and seized a home-made firearm, ammunition and a zombie knife.

The man was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station.

Following further inquiries, officers from the Western Region Enforcement Squad and the Orana Proactive Crime Team conducted a Firearms Prohibited Order at a home in Dubbo about 3.20pm the same day.

It is alleged police located and seized methylamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and an extendable baton.

The man was charged with supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, firearm found at premises – subject to prohibition order (two counts), use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order (two counts), and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period – second offence.

He was bail refused to appear before Dubbo Local Court today (Friday 16 April 2021).
