Disqualified P-plate driver charged with drink driving in Riverina

A provisional driver has been charged with traffic offences in the state’s Riverina yesterday.

Just before 8.30pm (Wednesday 6 October 2021), officers attached to Riverina Highway Patrol’s Strike Force Puma were conducting an operation on Byrnes Road, Bomen, 10km north east of Wagga Wagga, when they detected a Ford Falcon allegedly travelling almost 190km/h in a 100km/h signposted area.

The vehicle was stopped, and the driver produced a P1 licence which had expired in March this year.

Further checks revealed the 19-year-old man was currently disqualified from driving.

The man underwent a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive reading.

He was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he allegedly returned a positive breath analysis reading of 0.024.

The Junee man was charged with novice driver drive with special range PCA – second offence, drive recklessly/furiously in speed/manner dangerous, class C motor vehicle exceed speed by more than 45km/h, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period – second offence.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 24 November 2021.
