“NSW Premier Perrottet deserves to be condemned for blocking the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) laws for terminally ill NSW residents”said Dr Robert Marr Vice President of NSW Doctors Reform Society.
“It is a disgrace that NSW is the only state without legalized Voluntary Assisted Dying for terminally ill people mainly because Premier Perrottet ,who opposes VAD, is not allowing sufficient time for the Legislative Council to debate and pass the VAD laws which already have majority support in the Legislative council” said Dr Marr
“It would be a disgraceful scandal if Mr Perrottet was letting his conservative religious beliefs deny terminally ill NSW residents from having the same legal rights to chose VAD as terminally ill people have in every other Australian state.”said Dr Marr
“A majority of Legislative Council parliamentarians have already expressed their support for legalizing VAD but Mr Perrottet will not allow sufficient time for finalization of debtae or voting to legalize VAD in NSW”said Dr Marr
“As a GP with over 40 years experience I know NSW terminally ill residents are suffering unnecessarily and dying in extemely distressful conditions because Mr Perrottet appears to be letting his conservative religious beliefs stop NSW terminally ill people have the same legal right to chose VAD as terminally ill residents of every other Australian state already have”said Dr Marr.
