Australian Doctors Reform Society

“As Doctors we welcome the announcement tonight by the Leader of the Opposition ,Mr Anthony Albanese ,that a Labor government would mandate improved food and 24 hour 7 day a week nurse staffing in Aged care facilities.” said Dr Con Costa Vice President of Australian Doctors Reform Society

“For too long aged Australians in aged care facilities have been denied 24hour nursing care and received inadequate food that resulted in malnutrition as found in the Aged Care Royal Commission “said Dr Robert Marr ,Secretary General Australian Doctors Refrom Society

“I and many other GPs stopped working in Aged care facilities when the requirement to have nurses staffing them was removed by the Howard government because it was impossible to maintain quality care’ said Dr Marr

” I ,and I am sure many other GPs, would return to working in Aged care facilities when there was a guarantee that a nurse would always be working in the facility to provide the quality care required”said Dr Marr

“Having a nurse available 24 hours a day in Aged care facilities would not only improve the quality of care but also save Millions of dollars wasted by unnecessary transfers of aged Australians from aged Care facilities to public hospitals’said Dr Marr
