Don’t forget to register your pet – Wollongong

Are you a new pet owner? If you’re the owner of a new cat or dog, it’s time to register your pet.

Wollongong City Council is reminding all pet parents that owners of cats desexed prior to turning four months of age and owners of dogs desexed prior to turning six months of age, are entitled to discounted registration.

New pets can be registered online by visiting the Council website. Current cat and dog owners can also update the details of existing pets when a pet has been sold to a new owner, when moving residences, or if a pet goes missing or dies.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that it was important that all new pets were registered by their owners.

“We know that a pet is a very important member of the family. That’s why Council is reminding all pet owners that our new furry friends need to be registered before they turn six months old,’ he said.

“Registering your pet is a NSW State Government requirement and makes it easier to reunite lost pets with their families. It’s quick and easy to register your pet online or residents can also submit a hard copy form to Council’s Customer Service Team.”

Registration fees are set by the NSW State Government, and the discounted prices for pets’ registration for animals under six months old start at $26 and go up to $60.

A new few structure for registering pets was introduced by NSW Government on 1 July 2020 as a stringer incentive for owners to desex their pets.

Desexing your pet can help ease the burden on our local pounds and shelters, reduce euthanasia rates and help reduce the number of stray and roaming animals in our community.
