Draft Parkes Shire Housing Strategy now on exhibition

Parkes Shire

At the Ordinary Meeting of Council this week, Council resolved to endorse the Draft Parkes Shire Housing Strategy (2021-2041) for public exhibition.

The Parkes Shire Housing Strategy sets a 20 year vision for housing in the Parkes Shire, in line with the NSW Government’s Local Housing Strategy Guideline and the Parkes Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) 2041.

The strategy responds to the evidence base and key trends shaping future housing demand and supply in the Parkes Shire.

The Draft Parkes Shire Housing Strategy (PSHS) has been developed by Council over the past six months and identifies Council’s future vision for housing in the Parkes Shire, setting out framework plans and actions to achieve this vision, and the means to monitor and report on the rollout and uptake of residential land across the Shire.

The Parkes Shire Housing Issues Paper and Housing Preference Surveys undertaken in March 2021 provided important insights into the local conditions and future housing challenges. A key finding of these preliminary investigations is that all settlements in the Parkes Shire have adequate land capacity to support additional freestanding housing in a low growth scenario, consistent with demand over the life of the Parkes LSPS 2041.

Mayor of Parkes Shire Cr Ken Keith OAM said, “Council extends their thanks to the community for their time and effort in providing this valuable feedback which has helped shape the Draft Parkes Shire Housing Strategy.”

“We are now pleased to exhibit the Draft Parkes Shire Housing Strategy 2021 to the community. Any person who may be interested in making a submission should keep in mind that the Issues Paper should be referenced to understand the approach and rationale for the priorities outlined in the Draft Strategy.
