Townsville City Council is building a $1 million drainage line to make Aitkenvale more resilient and improve storm water management in the area.
Infrastructure Services Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said the project will run from Illich Park to the drainage channel behind Aitkenvale Library.
“10 Council employees are currently working on the 650 metre drainage line along Richard Street and Rendle Street – this will feed into the channel in Aitkenvale Park,” Cr Molachino said.
“The work started on 1 April and it is due to be completed by mid-July.
“This is another example of Council delivering on its commitment to spend almost $400 million on infrastructure.”
Local Councillor Maurie Soars says it highlights Council’s commitment to improving the city.
“Council is committed to improving infrastructure right across the city and this new pipeline will improve storm water management in the Aitkenvale area,” Cr Soars said.
“Our Construction, Maintenance and Operations team is working in the area and will reconstruct those streets once the pipe is laid.
“Locals will benefit from the project in the long-term and we’d like to thank them for their patience during the construction work.”
