Dreams Spark at East Coast Cup: Lacrosse’s Grand Weekend

As the world anticipates the return of lacrosse to the Olympic stage, Sydney gears up to host a thrilling weekend of lacrosse action at the annual East Coast Cup 2023. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Eric Primrose Reserve, teams from ACT, NSW, and Queensland will battle it out on October 14th and 15th, showcasing the sport’s burgeoning popularity and talent on the East Coast.

The East Coast Cup, a multi-state lacrosse tournament, is expected to draw a significant crowd of sports enthusiasts from the region. With group stages scheduled for Saturday and the grand finals on Sunday afternoon, spectators are in for two action-packed days. Adding to the excitement is a special university lacrosse exhibition game, ensuring there’s never a dull moment.

This event holds special significance, especially in light of the recent Olympic announcement. With LA28 proposing the addition of five new sports for the 2028 Olympic Games, the inclusion of lacrosse, which last featured in the Olympics in 1896, is monumental.

The sport has seen a resurgence in recent years, with Australia making a notable mark with its impressive 4th-place finishes in both the Men’s World Championship and Women’s World Cup. Such feats bolster the belief in Australia’s strong potential for Olympic medal contention.

Lacrosse NSW is not only focused on the competitive aspect of the game but is also deeply committed to community building.

“Lacrosse is a growing sport on the East Coast,” says Lacrosse NSW.

“We’re dedicated to nurturing a wider and vibrant lacrosse community, with teams that can shine both nationally and internationally.”

The East Coast Cup serves as an essential platform for state teams, featuring both men’s and women’s categories. This tournament plays a pivotal role in preparing them for national competitions in the coming year.

The East Coast Cup is an open event, with free entry for all spectators. Lacrosse NSW cordially invites the public to experience the exhilarating world of lacrosse firsthand.
