Drink driver charged after Hobart bridge crash

A 27-year-old Lauderdale man will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in September after crashing his vehicle on the Tasman Bridge last night.

Acting Sergeant Lauren Mcmahon said the man, who was the only occupant of the unregistered and uninsured vehicle, lost control and rolled it, narrowly missing other motorists.

“He ran from the crash but was located and arrested by police a short distance away,” she said.

“This sort of dangerous driving behaviour puts innocent people at risk, and won’t be tolerated.”

“Police are out on the roads every day enforcing the rules to keep our community safe, and we will continue to do everything we can to stop illegal and dangerous driving occurring.”

“Anyone who sees such driving should call police immediately on 131 444, or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.”

“If police can’t be called at the time, we have an evidence portal on our website (www.police.tas.gov.au/report) where people can upload dashcam or other footage for investigation.”

The man has been charged with drink driving (0.113), driver involved in a crash and failed to stop, and driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.
