Drink driver crashes with child in car

A woman has lost her licence immediately after crashing into a light pole with a child in her car while allegedly more than three times the legal alcohol limit in Knoxfield on Sunday.

Police were patrolling when they witnessed a vehicle being driven erratically with no headlights switched on at Applewood Drive about 6pm.

Officers observed the vehicle crash into a light pole, causing it to fall onto the road.

Police intercepted the vehicle and were shocked to find a child was in the car at the time of the collision.

Fortunately, neither the child or driver were injured in the incident.

The driver, a 32-year-old Knoxfield woman, returned an evidentiary breath test of 0.175.

Her licence was immediately suspended and she is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic offences.

This intercept forms part of Operation Regal, a four-day state-wide road policing effort to reduce road trauma and target poor driving behaviour.

Operation Regal commenced at 12:01am Friday 10 June and will conclude at 23:59pm on Monday 13 June 2022.
