Drive to conditions, police urge as wind picks up, South Australia

Eyre Peninsula is beginning to experience localised dust storms, with police urging motorists to drive to the conditions.

Superintendent Paul Bahr, the officer in charge of the Eyre and Western Local Service Area, said among the reports was that visibility on Lincoln Hwy near Cowell was down to three meters.

The Bureau of Meteorology yesterday issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Lower South East and parts of West Coast, Flinders, Murraylands, Upper South East and North West Pastoral districts.

SA Police are reminding road users that if their visibility is obscured – by dust or rain – to use their vehicle’s headlights and that if conditions become dangerous to pull a safe distance off the road.
