Driver arrested after narrowly missing police officers

A man has been arrested after failing to obey police directions and driving through a traffic cordon at a house fire in Woodville Gardens earlier this month.

Police and fire crews were called to a property on Hanson Road just after 6am on Sunday 7 June, following reports of a structure fire.

Fire crews arrived to find the house fully ablaze and worked to extinguish the fire, which caused extensive damage to the property.

Hanson Road was closed while emergency services responded to the incident.

Police will allege that just after 6am, a Suzuki hatchback approached the road closure and drove through the traffic cordon, causing police officers to take evasive action to avoid being struck. Fortunately, neither officer was physically injured.

Following investigations, the driver, a 64-year-old Renown Park man, was arrested on Sunday 14 June and charged with driving in a dangerous manner and failing to obey a direction of police. He was granted bail to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 15 July.

The man’s Suzuki was impounded for 28 days.
