Youth and Street Gangs Task Force, with the assistance of Northern District patrols, arrested a teenager in a stolen Volkswagen overnight.
Just before 9pm on Wednesday 26 August, patrols sighted a blue Volkswagen on Park Terrace at Salisbury and attempted to stop the driver, who took off and was last seen in the Parafield Gardens area.
Shortly after, police received reports from members of the public that a blue Volkswagen Tiguan was travelling at speed on Port Wakefield Highway at Waterloo Corner.
PolAir was called in to assist and detected the Volkswagen on Main North Road and tracked it through the Elizabeth and Salisbury areas, at times on the incorrect side of the road.
It will be alleged the driver drove through a red light at the intersection of Commercial Road and Salisbury Highway before coming to a stop in Burdett Street at Elizabeth Grove.
The driver attempted to run however patrols were quick on the scene and arrested the suspect without incident.
The 14-year-old Elizabeth Park boy was charged with illegal use, engage in a police pursuit, extreme speed, aggravated driving without care and driving unlicensed. He will appear in the Elizabeth Youth Court today.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or collisions reported.
The stolen Volkswagen was seized by police for forensic examination and is believed to be linked to a crime series.
Investigations are continuing.
