Driver charged following vehicle stop – Mid North Coast

A man has been charged with alleged commercial drug supply offences following a vehicle stop near Kempsey overnight.

About 12.30am (Friday 27 February 2026), police were patrolling the M1 near South Kempsey when they stopped a vehicle for random testing.

The driver underwent a roadside drug test that allegedly returned a positive result.

The man was arrested for the purposes of a secondary oral fluid test. The sample will be sent for further analysis.

Following inquiries, police conducted a search of the vehicle where they allegedly located and seized $21,520 cash, and approximately 321g of cocaine with an estimated potential street value of $98,000.

A 22-year-old Queensland man was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station.

There he was charged with four offences,

  • Supply prohibited drug (greater than or equal to commercial quantity)
  • Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime
  • Possess prohibited drug, and
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (m/v).

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 today (Friday 27 February 2026), where he was granted conditional bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday 7 May 2026.
