Driver flees after crash at St Marys

Police are investigating a crash at St Marys overnight where a car collided with a building and the driver has fled the scene.

Just before 2.20am on Monday 14 December, police were called to South Road St Marys near Quinlan Avenue, after reports of a car hitting a building.

On arrival, patrols located a small Mazda sedan was embedded into a wall of a shop. No person was in the vehicle, but police patrols located a man about 200 metres way who admitted to being a passenger in the car.

Police established the Mazda was travelling south on South Road, when it clipped a stobie pole and careered out of control into the brick wall of the shop.

SES were called in to assist and shore up the wall and secure the building.

The car was towed from the scene and police investigations are continuing to located the driver who has been identified by the passenger.
