Driver suspended until 2048 charged with outstanding arrest warrants in South Coast

A man suspended from driving until 2048 has been charged with driving while disqualified, among numerous other offences, after being arrested on several outstanding warrants.

About 7.50am on Friday (22 January 2021), officers attached to South Coast Police District attended a home on Coogee Street, Tuross Heads, following inquiries into the whereabouts of a 45-year-old man wanted on a warrant.

Upon seeing police, the man attempted to flee from the rear of the home and was stopped by officers. After a brief struggle, the man was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station.

In a subsequent search of the home, officers found several items of interest including prohibited drugs, cash and allegedly stolen goods.

The Batemans Bay man was charged with numerous offences, including resist officer in execution of duty, possess prohibited drug, break and enter, and use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention and outstanding warrants for offences including police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Batemans Bay Local Court on Friday, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Monday 1 February 2021.
