Driving and drug charges at Palmview, QLD

Beerwah Police have charged a 36-year-old Caboolture man with driving and drug offences after he allegedly failed to stop for police last night on the Bruce Highway at Palmview.

It will be alleged that at around 9.40pm a police vehicle was travelling north on the highway when it spotted a southbound sedan travelling in the northbound lanes and heading towards oncoming traffic.

The Police Communications Centre also started receiving calls in relation to a vehicle travelling on the incorrect side of the road.

A police vehicle attempted to intercept the sedan near the Johnston Road intersection with the vehicle failing to stop and crossing over to the southbound lanes, as it continued driving south on the highway.

Police pursued the vehicle with it failing to stop.

A tyre deflation device (stingers) was successfully deployed at the intersection with Red Road.

The vehicle continued driving on its rims with police stopping the vehicle near the Pumicestone Road overpass at around 10.20pm.

The driver and sole occupant was arrested and charged with seven offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evade police, fail to comply with a direction, contravene a direction, obstruct police and possession of a dangerous drug (cannabis) and possession of property suspected of being used in a drug offence.

He is due to appear in the Caloundra Magistrates Court on August 12.

Two police vehicles were damaged.
