Driving force: City of Canada Bay women get under bonnet

The City of Canada Bay hosted its inaugural car maintenance workshop for women over the weekend.

“We are pleased to offer this opportunity to local women free of charge to celebrate International Women’s Day and NSW Women’s Week,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“The course is designed especially for women, by women to empower them to feel confident knowing what’s under the bonnet and perform basic car maintenance.”

The course was facilitated by the all-female team at Galmatic who share between them decades of experience in teaching.

13 local women attended the event at Concord Community Centre where they dove under the bonnet to check the oil, coolant, fluids, and battery and then changed a tyre.

“I had so much fun. As a young teenage girl I knew nothing about my car or about changing a tire. The course taught me so much and I’ve already recommend it to so many friends. I feel like without this course I would never have had to opportunity to learn about this stuff,” said one participant.

The City of Canada Bay looks forward to continuing to provide workshops like this in the future.
