Driving offence leads to arrest, South Australia

A man will appear in court today after police located a homemade firearm in his car.

About 10.15pm on Wednesday 17 August, police were travelling on Yorktown Road at Elizabeth Park when they spotted a silver Ford sedan leaving a service station. The car did not have its headlights on and patrols followed the car for a short distance before they lost sight of it.

Police headed to the registered owners Elizabeth Park address and saw the same vehicle parked in the driveway and a man walking away from the property.

Northern District patrols had a conversation with the man and during this time the car had been identified as being involved in the theft of fuel from the Yorktown Road petrol station.

Police located inside the vehicle a small bag of white powder believed to be a controlled substance. A search of the vehicle also located a homemade firearm under the driver’s seat.

A search of the man’s home located three gel blasters and ammunition. The 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with firearms offences, possessing ammunition and breaching his bail. The man did not apply for bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.
