Drug trafficking syndicate in southern suburbs collapsed by police

Police from the Serious and Organised Crime Branch have made a number of arrests as part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of illicit drugs across the southern suburbs of Adelaide.

Yesterday, police attended a shopping centre at Hackham and arrested a 34-year-old man from Windsor Gardens and a 37-year-old man from Port Noarlunga South and charged them both with drug trafficking after police found them in possession of about one kilogram of methamphetamine. Both men were refused bail and appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.

Police also attended addresses at Huntfield Heights where a 64-year-old man from Huntfield Heights was arrested and charged with two counts of drug trafficking after a search uncovered about 14 grams of methamphetamine. He was refused bail and appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.

Investigators then attended an address at Aldinga Beach where a 35-year-old man was arrested and charged with 88 counts of drug trafficking and one count of money laundering after a search uncovered about 40 grams of methamphetamine, $155,000 in cash, two motor vehicles and three motorcycles. He was refused bail and appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.

Police also attended premises at Sellicks Beach, Modbury North, Windsor Gardens, Holden Hill where searches uncovered methamphetamine, 100 grams of cocaine, 5 kilograms of pseudo-ephedrine, 1 kilogram of iodine, 2 litres of hypo-phosphorous acid and a clandestine lab (box lab). A 39-year-old man from Sellicks Beach was arrested and charged with six counts of drug trafficking and two counts of breach of bail. He was refused bail and appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.

Earlier today, investigators searched a Morphett Vale address where a 35-year-old Morphett Vale man was arrested and charged with drug trafficking after just over $8000 cash was located. Police then attended a Hackham address where a 47-year-old man from Hackham was arrested and charged with 11 counts of drug trafficking after one grams of methamphetamine and $11,000 was discovered. Both men have been bailed to appear in court at a later date.

“These results are the culmination of a significant investigation that has specifically targeted a drug trafficking syndicate operating in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. SAPOL will continue to proactively investigate people who choose to place the community at risk by trafficking drugs”, said Detective Chief Inspector David Scutchings of the Serious and Organised Crime Branch.

Investigations are continuing and further arrests are expected.
