Drugs and imitation firearm located after motorcyclist arrested in Southbank

Police arrested a motorcyclist and uncovered drugs and an imitation firearm following an incident in Southbank this morning.

Officers were patrolling on Fawkner Street when they observed a motorcyclist riding on a footpath about 2.40am.

The motorcyclist went to perform a U-turn in front of the police vehicle, so officers slowed their car and blocked in the rider.

An officer got out of the vehicle and the rider allegedly accelerated towards him before losing control and crashing into a parked Mercedes.

Police arrested the man and subsequently located what is believed to be methylamphetamine, cash and an imitation firearm in his possession.

The 25-year-old man was transported to hospital for observation where he remains under police guard.

Luckily, the officer was not injured during the incident.
