Mataranka drugs 2

Northern Territory Police have issued two males with notices to appear in court after they were located with drugs in Mataranka.

Police conducted a traffic apprehension on the vehicle the two males were travelling in around 3:15pm on Tuesday 30 April.

A strong smell of cannabis was detected which resulted in police conducting a search of the vehicle. A total of 336 grams of cannabis was seized along with the vehicle.

It is believed the males, aged 29 and 26, had intentions to sell the cannabis in Ngukurr and Numbulwar communities. They will appear in court at a later date.

Remote Sergeant Thomas Chalk said police will continue to target those who attempt to transport drugs into remote communities.

“Drug running will not be tolerated. As a result of their irresponsible actions these two males have lost their method of transport and will be appearing before a judge”

“The penalties for transporting drugs range from fines to lengthy jail time. The consequences of these actions are not worth the risks,” he said.
