Two separate drug detections have resulted in arrests and charges during a targeted Drug Transit Route operation in the state’s Mid North this week.
About 11.10pm on Tuesday 25 August, Port Pirie police, with the assistance of Police Dog Csaba, stopped a vehicle on the Augusta Highway at Warnertown.
Following a positive indication by Police Dog Csaba, officers searched the vehicle and allegedly located 32 grams of cocaine concealed beneath the driver’s seat.
A 23-year-old Port Augusta man was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled drug. He was bailed to appear in court at a later date. (222319)
In a second incident, about 1.45am on Thursday 27 August, Yorke Mid North police, with the assistance of Police Dog Csaba, were conducting patrols on the Barrier Highway at Oodla Wirra.
Police stopped a tow truck towing a Volkswagen and conducted a search after Police Dog Csaba indicated on the vehicle. Officers allegedly located approximately 250 grams of ecstasy, three grams of cocaine, 1.4 grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe.
Police also allegedly located $6,985 in cash.
A 38-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both from New South Wales, were arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled drug and possessing drug equipment.
They were refused police bail and are expected to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court today. (223407)
