Drugs seized in vehicle stop, NSW

A man has been charged after drugs were seized during a vehicle stop west of Inverell yesterday.

About 2.30pm (Thursday 11 June 2020), detectives from State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad observed a Holden Commodore travelling at speed, heading east on the Gwidyr Highway at Warialda.

With the assistance of officers attached to the New England Police District, the detectives conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of Inverell Street and Dumboy Street, Delungra about 3pm.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, was subject to a roadside breath analysis which returned a negative result for alcohol.

Following inquiries, police conducted a search of the vehicle where they located several resealable bags containing cocaine with an estimated street value of $5000. The drugs were seized along with cash, a phone and weight scales consistent with drug supply.

The 23-year-old underwent a roadside drug test which returned a positive result for cocaine.

The man was arrested and taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with exceed speed, self-administer/attempt self-administer prohibited drug, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs, supply prohibited drug, and deal with property proceeds of crime.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Inverell Local Court on Thursday 16 July 2020.
