Drunk driver stopped in Eastern Bay of Plenty

As stated by Senior Sergeant Tristan Murray:

A 58-year-old woman has been summons to appear in court after blowing three times the legal limit.

Eastern Bay of Plenty Police responded to a report of a vehicle swerving across College Road in Edgecumbe on Tuesday.

Staff located the vehicle outside a primary school and approached the driver who was waiting to pick up her grandchildren.

The driver blew an Excess Breath Alcohol reading of 777 micrograms, which is three times the legal limit.

A passenger in the vehicle was also under the influence of alcohol.

The woman is due to appear in Whakatane District Court on 15 June.

There is one key message here: if you drink alcohol, don’t drive.

It’s that simple.

People should never ever drive when impaired by alcohol, drugs, or fatigue. It’s not only your life on the line, but everybody else sharing the road with you.

Another long weekend is coming up, there will be more traffic on our roads and even more reason to ensure we take extra care with our driving and do not take any unnecessary risks.

All drivers should expect to be stopped by Police at any time.

We want to see everybody taking their safety and the safety of other motorists seriously, to help ensure everyone arrives alive.
