E-bike Charges – Operation Meadowbank

Road Policing North officers have charged a rider and seized an e-bike following an incident involving multiple eRideable users in Stirling as part of Operation Meadowbank, an ongoing metropolitan operation targeting dangerous and anti-social riding behaviour.

About 1.20pm, officers responded to reports of several riders allegedly engaging in dangerous riding behaviour in the vicinity of Stirling Civic Gardens on Cedric Street. It will be alleged riders weaved in between and in front of vehicles, travelled through red traffic lights and rode through off-road areas, creating a significant risk to themselves, other road users and pedestrians. At one stage, a rider was observed filming on a mobile phone while riding.

Officers on board a Police Air Wing aircraft tracked one of the riders through several suburbs towards Herdsman Lake, where ground units were directed to the rider’s location and the rider was taken into police custody.

The rider has been summonsed to appear before a court at a later date charged with one count of ‘No Authority to Drive’ and one count of ‘Reckless Driving’.

Inquiries, including efforts to identify any other riders involved and any further offences, remain ongoing.

Operation Meadowbank targets dangerous riding behaviour, illegally modified eRideables and criminal activity involving eRideable devices. Police will continue to conduct targeted enforcement activities across the metropolitan area, with riders who fail to comply with Western Australian laws facing enforcement action, including seizure and impoundment of their devices. In appropriate circumstances, non-compliant eRideable devices seized by police may be forfeited and destroyed.
