Eastern Beach Staircase Update

In July, we notified the community of concerns around the Eastern Beach Grand Staircase , noting that it was built in 1929 and is now nearly 100 years old.

At the time, we flagged the potential removal of the two pillars most severely affected.

Following further analysis and discussions with Heritage Victoria, these two pillars are now being removed due to structural concerns.

Public safety remains our priority. The rest of the staircase is still safe to use for now, and temporary safety fencing will remain in place.

We’re continuing to work with experts on the planning, detailed design, heritage requirements and permit process for the staircase renewal.
