Please be aware of 2 upcoming major road closures starting Friday 14 August as part of the Eastern Freeway Upgrades.
These works will significantly impact local traffic.
Full Eastern Freeway closure
There will be a full closure of the Eastern Freeway between Bulleen Road and Springvale Road from 10 pm on Friday 14 August to 5 am on Monday 17 August 2026.
This closure will allow major construction works to take place, including:
• lifting and installing a large structure for the citybound exit ramp that will connect the new North East Link tunnels to the Eastern Freeway
• installing noise wall
• upgrading pavement.
What to expect:
Delays of up to 90 minutes are expected during peak travel times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and avoid the area where possible.
Thompsons Road closure
From 10 pm on Friday 14 August to 5am on Monday 14 September, Thompsons Road will be closed in both directions between Bulleen Road and the Thompsons Road Ringwood-bound entry ramp (next to Bulleen Park & Ride).
The closure will allow the building of the permanent Thompsons Road alignment, as well as continue to construct the elevated ramps connecting the upgraded Eastern Freeway into the North East Link tunnels.
The outbound freeway entry ramp will remain open from Thompsons Road, except during active freeway closures.
From 9 pm on Tuesday 18 August to mid-September, the Bulleen Road citybound entry ramp will also close to lift large beams into place and carry out works to continue building the permanent ramp.
What to expect:
Delays of up to 30 minutes are expected during peak travel times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and avoid the area where possible.
These closures are also expected to impact the broader road network, with increased traffic volumes anticipated on surrounding arterial roads, including Doncaster Road, Bulleen Road, Manningham Road and High Street.
Electronic message signs and signed detour routes will be in place to assist road users throughout the closure period.
