Economic stimulation for Gordonvale and Babinda

Support for events, developing community assets and improved infrastructure have been key components in Council’s support for sustainable economic development of Babinda and Gordonvale.

A report tabled to Council today (11 September) noted a number of activities undertaken by Council as part of the Economic Development Plans for Gordonvale and Babinda, to stimulate economic activity, increase employment, encourage investment and support population growth.

Key Council activities during 2018/19 include:

  • Endorsement of the $8.7 million Kenrick Street Park and Fisher Road Park Improvement Plan in Gordonvale
  • Over $58,000 in financial and in-kind support for the Great Pyramid Race 2018, Babinda Harvest Festival 2018, Animal Education Day 2018 and Christmas events in both communities.
  • $2.38 million project to develop Greenpatch, on the banks of the Mulgrave River in Gordonvale into a formal campground
  • Financial and in-kind support for Babinda Taskforce, which provides a variety of services to the community and local businesses, and for the Babinda Visitor Information Centre.

The report to Council noted the Plans have been effective in guiding economic development activities in Gordonvale and Babinda.
