Corangamite Shire residents can learn how to minimise their impact on the environment at an upcoming series of free workshops.

Council has teamed up with Good for the Hood—a social enterprise that aims to empower everyday people to be advocates for a sustainable future.

Host Jo Taranto has worked with the ABC’s ‘War on Waste’ and ‘Fight for Planet A: Our Climate Challenge’. She will join in virtually to talk about emissions and actions that can create a positive impact and opportunity for community leadership.

Ms Taranto has qualifications in health science and environment, and more than 20 years of behaviour change experience, most recently with local governments and social enterprises in New South Wales and Victoria.

“Our vision is to build an eco-system of everyday change-makers and to make the journey accessible, positive and light-hearted so that every person – no matter what their age, political views or background – can be inspired to create their own piece of good.” she said.

Mayor Ruth Gstrein invited community members to register for the Reducing Emissions workshop on Wednesday 19 May at the Timboon Fire Station.

“The event aims to inspire discussion about greenhouse gas emissions.

It will cover what greenhouse gas emissions are, how they are created, and how we can reduce our emissions.

This event is the first of three being held across the Shire.

On Thursday 3 June at the Grimwade Rooms in Lismore, Ms Taranto will host ‘Rethinking Waste (For Good)’, discussing the state of waste and litter in our area in 2021. She will explain what the circular economy is, how it works, and how to incorporate it into your community.

On Wednesday 16 June at the at the Civic Hall in Terang she will present ‘Inspiring Connections (For Good)’, focussing on how to tackle loneliness and improve social inclusion while helping the environment.
