An elderly man had died in hospital following an alleged serious assault and robbery in the state’s Far West earlier this month.
About 2pm on Sunday 13 September 2026, emergency services were called to a home on Argent Street, Broken Hill, following reports a man had been assaulted and robbed.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District arrived and found a man – aged 81 – with serious assault injuries.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man before he was taken to Broken Hill Hospital in a serious condition for further treatment of head injuries and fractured ribs.
Police were told a man – known to the older man – had allegedly demanded money and threatened him with a knife before assaulted him and stealing an amount of cash.
A crime scene was established at the scene, and detectives commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District arrested a 38-year-old man in Dubbo, on Monday 14 September 2026.
He has since been charged and remains before the court.
Today (Wednesday 30 September 2026), police were informed the 81-year-old had died in hospital.
A report will be prepared for the information of the NSW Coroner.
