Electrification expo shows how to cut bills, emissions

Electrify Boroondara

Electrify Boroondara, a community-led, volunteer powered alliance dedicated to accelerating the transition to a clean energy future is hosting Boroondara’s first electrification expo this weekend. The free expo, held at Hawthorn Arts Centre on Sunday 8 October from 10am – 4pm, will provide free expert advice on how households can shift to a zero emission life and benefit. “Our community is eager to embrace the low bill, zero emission future that electrification offers,” spokesperson Carolyn Ingvarson said. “Superior electric technology such as EVs, induction stoves, electric hot water and heating means lower bills, cleaner air and a healthier environment. It’s a win for households, a win for the community and a win for the planet.” Event highlights include an electric vehicle showcase, featuring Polestar, Kia, Volvo and Hyundai models, live demonstrations of e-bikes, induction cooktops, batteries, rooftop solar and electric hot water. Education sessions will unpack a range of topics including financing the transition, demystifying energy-efficient appliances, the health benefits of electrification, sustainability in schools and the economic and environmental impacts of electric transport. Keynote speakers include inventor, author and co-founder of Rewiring Australia Saul Griffith, financial journalist and commentator Alan Kohler, as well as elected representatives Federal Member for Kooyong Monique Ryan, State Member for Hawthorn and Opposition Leader John Pesutto, State Member for Kew Jess Wilson, State Member for Ashwood Matt Fregon, and Mayor of Boroondara Council Felicity Sinfield. “This event is the spark that Boroondara needs to electrify. From rooftop solar to electric cars, our homes, workplaces and vehicles have the potential to be hubs of innovation and create positive change for our community. No matter where residents are on their electrification journey, the expo will help them plan their next steps,” Ms Ingvarson said.
