Police have conducted a three-day high-visibility operation focused on preventing and disrupting crime in the Tamworth area, under Operation Soteria.
Operation Soteria is focused on crime reduction, offender disruption and community safety across the state.
From Wednesday 22 July 2026 to Friday 24 July 2026, officers attached to Oxley Police District – supported by the Western Operations Support Group and Youth Command – deployed throughout the Tamworth area and conducted a coordinated surge operation.
As a result, 11 people were charged, including a man wanted on an arrest warrant. Officers also issued eight Court Attendance Notices, conducted 15 person searches and move on directions, and conducted 52 bail and AVO compliance checks. The Youth Command conducted nine engagement visits, participated in a boxing program and several school visits.
Arrests of note:
- On Wednesday 22 July 2026, a 30-year-old woman was charged with common assault (DV), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic). She was granted conditional bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday 10 August 2026.
- On Friday 24 July 2026, a 31-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and charged with drug related offences. He was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday 3 August 2026.
- On Friday 24 July 2026, a 17-year-old boy was charged with break and enter house etc steal value less than $60,000. He was refused to appear before a children’s court the same day, where he was formally refused to reappear on Friday 31 July 2026.
- On Friday 24 July 2026, a 43-year-old man was charged with custody of knife in public place, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal), two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and hinder/resist law enforcement officer in execution of duty. He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 5 the same day, where he was formally refused to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday 10 August 2026.
