Homicide Squad Detectives with the assistance of Arson Squad investigators are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire at a Backpackers hostel located on Adelaide Terrace in East Perth.
About 12.25am this morning (13 December 2019), Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) were call to a fire at the hostel.
DFES extinguished the fire and five residents received smoke inhalation with two conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital by ambulance for treatment. A woman was located and taken to hospital where she was declared deceased.
A man is assisting police with their inquiries.
Detectives are urging anyone who was driving along Adelaide Terrace between midnight and 12.30am, who has dash-cam vision of the area, or anyone with information regarding this fire, is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
