- Premier’s Relief Payment eligible for residents impacted by Mariginiup fire
- Payments to provide immediate financial assistance for Western Australians in need
- Up to $4,000 to pay for food, clothing, transport and accommodation
Residents whose houses were destroyed or severely damaged in the devastating Mariginiup fire will be eligible for a $4,000 Premier’s Relief Payment.
Those whose homes suffered more minor damage will also be able to access a one-off $2,000 payment.
The Mariginiup fire has been burning in Perth’s northern suburbs since Wednesday, with at least 18 homes destroyed in the blaze and many others damaged.
Designed to provide immediate financial assistance to those impacted by emergencies, the Premier’s Relief Payment helps to pay for food, clothing, personal effects, transport and emergency accommodation.
Evacuees are already being supported by staff from the Department of Communities and the Department of Emergency Services, as well as charitable organisations and volunteers. An evacuation centre has been established at the Gumblossom community centre in Quinns Rocks, and the Bullsbrook Centre for National Resilience is also housing those who are displaced.
The Premier’s Relief Payment will open tomorrow, managed by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
“This fire has had a devastating impact on communities in our northern suburbs, and my thoughts are with those who have lost homes and property.
“My Government will do everything it can to support those impacted during this difficult time.
“Today’s announcement of immediate assistance will help to ease the financial burden for affected residents.”
As stated by Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson:
“The Cook Government’s Premier’s Relief Payment is a crucial support in the immediate aftermath of an emergency.
“The payment will help residents pay for food, accommodation, transport and clothes as they come to terms with the impact of the fire.
“Importantly, this is just one of the ways residents can access help, with fire crews and support staff still on the ground responding to this unfolding situation.”
As stated by Wanneroo MLA Sabine Winton:
“The people of Wanneroo have stepped up to support each other through this devastating fire.
“My thoughts are with those who have had to leave their homes, we know the recovery process will take time, but this immediate financial aid will provide much-needed assistance in the short term.
“I am sure this payment will be welcomed by local residents who’ve been impacted.”
