More than $11,000 has been raised for Lifeline Central Coast after emergency services personnel, community organisations and local sporting teams came together for the third annual Central Coast Emergency Services Charity Rugby Gala Day on Sunday (27 September 2026).
Held at the Gosford Showground Rugby Field, the event featured 21 rugby union matches throughout the day, bringing together teams from across the Central Coast and Hunter regions in support of a shared cause.
Teams included Brisbane Water PD, Tuggerah Lakes PD, Newcastle City/Lake Macquarie PDs, Lifeline, the Australian Army, NSW Health, Ausgrid, Tradies, Northern Eagles and Gosford Kariong Mountain Devils Rugby Union Football Club.
After a full day of competition, Northern Eagles claimed the championship trophy, ending Tuggerah Lakes Police District’s reign as defending premiers. Brisbane Water Police District finished as runners up.
Acting Inspector Michael Taylor said the event continued to grow each year and highlighted the strong connection between emergency services, community organisations and local sporting groups.
“This event is about much more than rugby. It’s about bringing people together, strengthening connections and supporting a cause that affects so many people in our community,” Acting Inspector Taylor said.
“Unfortunately, most of us have been touched by suicide in some way, whether through family, friends, colleagues or members of the community. That’s why supporting organisations like Lifeline is so important.”
“To see teams from across emergency services, government agencies, local businesses and community groups come together and raise more than $11,000 for Lifeline is an outstanding result.”
“Every dollar raised will help Lifeline continue its work on the Central Coast, providing support to people when they need it most.”
Acting Inspector Taylor thanked all players, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who contributed to the success of the day.
“The generosity shown by everyone involved is incredible and we’re proud to be able to support Lifeline and the important services they provide.”
The Central Coast Emergency Services Charity Rugby Gala Day is now in its third year and continues to grow as a community-focused event supporting mental health awareness and suicide prevention initiatives across the region.
