Encouraging more Tasmanians to play sport

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is developing a strategy to increase Tasmanians’ participation in sport and active recreation.

Participating in sport and active recreation improves our health and mental wellbeing, as well as helping to develop connected and inclusive communities.

The strategy will provide a vision and strategic directions to guide investments and initiatives to support sport and active recreation in Tasmania to 2030.

The Tasmanian Sport and Active Recreation Discussion Paper released today outlines key trends and issues facing the sport and active recreation sector, and provides a proposed vision and key focus areas for comment.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government wants to ensure the Strategy considers the issues and priorities that matter to the sport and active recreation sector and broader Tasmanian community.

Consultation to inform the development of the Strategy is open until 17 December 2021.

Community members and organisations can contribute to the Strategy by providing a written submission, completing a 10 minute survey or meeting with the Department of Communities Tasmania.
