Engaging communities and young people in arts

Elise Archer,Minister for the Arts

The Tasmanian Government strongly supports our vibrant cultural and creative arts sector and is committed to investing in its future, to see it grow.

That’s why today I am pleased to announce the funding of over $790,000 for Tasmanian arts and community organisations through two separate funding programs – The Arts Tasmania Youth Arts Organisations and Community Arts and Cultural Development (arts organisations).

The funding will support 15 organisations and provide paid opportunities for 279 artists, giving them greater opportunities to grow and thrive as the sector continues to recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

Five organisations have been awarded $260,000 through the Youth Arts Organisations grants for activities that will develop the creative skills of young people.

This includes DRILL Youth Performance Company Inc in Hobart, who will use their funding of $80,000 to develop high-quality dance performances and deliver workshops aimed at getting young people moving.

Additionally, 10 community-focused activities have been supported through Community Arts and Cultural Development (arts organisations), which has been delivered as part of the $1 million Community Arts and Cultural Development Fund.

This includes KickstART Network, formally known as Kickstart Arts, who has received $79,224 to deliver a community arts and cultural development music program in 2022.

The program will facilitate meaningful collaborations between artists and community members and connect young people, emerging artists, schools, and people living with disabilities with professional musicians.

Our cultural and creative industries are vitally important as they not only support thousands of jobs across the State and add millions to our economy but they are essential to our unique Tasmanian identity, and our Government is pleased to continue to help grow this important sector.

Arts Tasmania currently has eight grant programs open for application, with applications closing on 11 October 2021.
