Enter your local hero in 2021 calendar competition

Who is your local hero? If they live, work or volunteer in Corangamite Shire, enter your image of them in Council’s 2021 calendar competition.

Mayor Neil Trotter said the calendar was a great way to recognise the efforts of our local heroes.

“The theme, ‘Local Heroes’ is open to interpretation. Who inspires you and why? We are lucky to have so many people in the Shire who do incredible work to support our communities.

“Very often they fly under the radar and don’t look for recognition. This is an opportunity to let them know they are appreciated and the rest of us are grateful for what they do.

“Maybe they do charity work, help the elderly or people with disabilities, mentor youth. They could help out at a sporting club or service club, or just be a fantastic role model.

“Participants could also consider nominating their heroes in the Australia Day awards for this year. Nominations on our website close on Monday 2 November.”

Cr Trotter said the competition was open to professionals, amateurs and enthusiasts of all ages who earn, learn or live in Corangamite Shire. Entry is free and multiple entries are accepted.

Youth Mayor Tess Lourey said the Corangamite Youth Crew is planning to hold some photography training sessions in October and successful entries will be exhibited online and at various locations across the Shire in 2021.

“Use your imagination to tell a story about what your hero—or heroes—bring to the community,” she said.

“You could picture them in a location or setting that illustrates who they truly are, or with objects that show the value of what they do. The possibilities are only limited by your creativity.”

A panel comprising the Mayor, Youth Mayor Chief Executive Officer and Communications Coordinator will select the final 13 photos based on the quality of the photograph and balanced representation from across the Shire.

The 2021 Calendar will be distributed to every Corangamite Shire household in December 2020. Winners will receive a small gift and some calendars.
