Now is the time for artists to vie for one of Australia’s biggest art prizes by entering next year’s Ephemera: Seaside Sculptures.
The Ephemera Acquisitive Prize carries a $90,000 cash award along with the permanent installation of the winning piece, while the non-acquisitive Artistic Excellence Award comes with a $10,000 cash prize.
In 2021 this unique outdoor sculpture exhibition attracted more than 180,000 visitors, 2023 is expected to attract more than 200,000 visitors.
Mayor Jenny Hill said the biennial exhibition was a nationally-recognised event.
“Council is proud to host this prestigious exhibition which includes both large-scale and small outdoor artworks by sculptors from across the country. We also encourage local sculptors, schools and community groups to enter,” Cr Hill said.
“Townsville has long been recognised as the events, arts and culture capital of Northern Australia and Ephemera is the perfect example of that, bringing world-class sculptures to one of the country’s most beautiful foreshores at The Strand.”
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said artists should get their applications in sooner rather than later.
“I’d strongly recommend any artists from Townsville, other states, or even from overseas to consider entering into Ephemera 2023 to exhibit alongside some incredible artists,” Cr Greaney said.
“The call for artists is now open. Applications close at 10am on Tuesday 1 November, so make sure you don’t miss the deadline if you’re interested in exhibiting at Ephemera.”
Ephemera: Seaside Sculptures runs from 22 July to 6 August 2023.
