Entries open for 2020 North Queensland Ceramic Awards

Ceramicists are now invited to enter the 2020 North Queensland Ceramic Awards.

The prestigious awards have a long history of increasing public exposure to a high standard of pottery from Townsville and around the nation.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson, Councillor Colleen Doyle, said the North Queensland Ceramic Awards always drew in a high level of talent.

“This biennial exhibition has a major acquisitive prize of $10,000, presented by Townsville City Council under the City of Townsville Art Collection Award,” Cr Doyle said.

“Council is committed to supporting the arts scene in Townsville and holding nationally-recognised exhibitions like this helps cement the city’s reputation as a tourism and cultural destination.”

Cr Doyle said this competition was open to well-known artists as well as emerging ceramicists.

“We want to celebrate the local artists we have here in Townsville and from across Australia who have already been widely exhibited, as well as those just starting out,” she said.

“Ceramics can take so many interesting forms, so I’m really looking forward to seeing the creative diversity in the room.”

Emerging and current ceramicists, including arts graduates and school students, are invited to enter the 2020 North Queensland Ceramic Awards.
