EPA lays charges against individual in relation to Lara waste pile

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has laid two charges against an individual following an investigation into the alleged failure to remove illegally dumped waste at a residential property in Lara.

It’s alleged the individual failed to comply with an EPA notice that required a waste stockpile to be removed from the Lara property.

EPA South West Regional Manager Carolyn Francis said that the charges were criminal offences.

“EPA takes matters of this kind very seriously and pursues suspected offenders in the courts in a bid to protect public health and our environment,” Ms Francis said.

“EPA will not tolerate pollution of the environment and will not hesitate to take action if it thinks offences have occurred.

“It is important that anyone witnessing the dumping of waste contact EPA directly on 1300 EPA VIC (372 842). They can do so confidentially. This allows EPA to obtain critical information directly from those who witnessed activities.”

As the matter is now before the courts EPA must follow due legal process and will not be able to comment further.
