The Grampians region will welcome visitors from near and far for an epic new endurance running event this spring, the GPT 100 Miler, thanks to support from the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos announced today the GPT 100 Miler will be held at the Grampians Peaks Trail from 22 – 26 November and was a successful funding recipient from the Labor Government’s $20 million Regional Events Fund.
The event has already attracted the most competitive field ever assembled in Australia for the over 100-mile distance event. Competitors in the inaugural event will have the opportunity to race the 158km trail continuously or over a four-day stage race format with the option for a team relay in both formats.
The race starts at Mt Zero in the North and finishes in Dunkeld in the South, with a 50km option for those keen to experience the beauty of the Grampians Peaks Trail in a shorter format.
Along the journey through remote wilderness, runners will pass 12 campsites each with stunning huts built in the most secluded areas along the route.
Halls Gap will act as event basecamp and headquarters for five days with flow on benefits to local businesses and accommodation providers.
Event organisers will use their funding from the Regional Events Fund to help raise the international profile of the event and build the reputation of the Grampians Peaks Trail and benefits of the wider region.
The event is supported through Visit Victoria via the Regional Events Fund, which has supported more than 350 events across the state since 2016.
