Epworth Eastern kidney beans

Staff from Epworth Eastern dialysis unit are in the final days of fundraising for Kidney Health Australia, hoping to retain their crown as the highest fundraising dialysis unit in the Red Socks Appeal.

Kidney disease is an insidious and deadly disease that affects 1.7 million Australians. Kidney Health Australia’s Red Socks Appeal raises awareness and vital funds for early detection activities and support services to alleviate the impact and harm it causes.

Epworth Eastern dialysis Nurse Unit Manager Millie Flowers said fundraising to support the appeal is close to their heart.

‘We see first hand the impact that kidney disease has on our patients,’ Ms Flowers said.

“People with kidney disease are hooked up to a dialysis machine for five hours, three times a week removing toxins from the blood, work that is normally done by the kidney”.

Last year the Kidney Beans Team from Epworth Eastern raised more than any other dialysis unit in the Big Red Kidney Walk, which became the Red Socks Appeal due to COVID-19.

You can donate to the team on the Red Socks Appeal website.
