ESA strengthening support for LGBTIQ+

The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) has formalised its commitment to creating and promoting a safe and inclusive working environment for LGBTIQ+ people.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman signed a statement with ESA leadership formalising the ESA’s commitment to creating an environment where all personnel feel valued and respected.

“The Inclusion and Diversity Commitment Statement sends a strong message that ESA is creating an environment for everyone to work without fear of discrimination, judgment or persecution,” Minister Gentleman said.

“I’ve no doubt that the agency’s leaders will carry the values of this statement into each service and on to their individual teams and squads.

“As the Territory with highest percentage of “YES” votes in the 2017 plebiscite, I’m proud that our emergency services are part of Canberra’s inclusive community.”

ESA Commissioner Georgeina Whelan reaffirmed this sentiment by stating that all members of the ESA should be supported to contribute and participate to the best of their abilities and have a fulfilling and rewarding career.

“ESA is motivated to be an employer of choice for everyone and to continue to encourage a diverse workforce across the ACT’s emergency services,” Commissioner Whelan said.

“I will continue to work with my leadership team and across the organisation to ensure this commitment is embedded in the ESA’s culture.”
