The Electrical Trades Union has hit out at the sickening hypocrisy of the NSW Government, amid revelations more than 30 executives in the Transport department are paid above the top of the pay scale despite wage austerity for everyone else.
The Sun Herald today revealed Transport for NSW is paying 34 executives above the maximum “internal remuneration range” this year, despite imposing a pay rise wage cap on the rest of the public sector workforce of less than 2.5 per cent.
One executive is paid $388,000 for a role with a pay range of $233,730 to $311,599, while another earned $58,000 above the role’s salary package maximum of $354,000.
“The double stahdards of Gladys Berejiklian’s Government are appalling,” said NSW ETU Secretary, Allen Hicks. “A maintenance worker on the railways can’t get a proper payrise but someone in an air conditioned corner office can be paid tens of thousands above their pay scale.
“It stinks to high heaven.
“Why should a hard working maintenance worker suffer within the wages straitjacket while the wages of a pampered senior executive skyrocket?
“This policy is one of greed for the elites and austerity for the masses.
“It is immoral but it is also economically stupid. Everyone from the Reserve Bank Governor down has said that the public sector is the key to kickstarting wages growth. Yet the NSW Government is holding back wages despite being the biggest employer in the country.
“NSW deserves better.”
