Evacuation completed – Jilkminggan

Jilkminggan community has now been fully evacuated.

All residents have been safely transferred to temporary accommodation in Mataranka.

Commander Janelle Tonkin said, “This afternoon’s evacuation showed us how well the community can work together to make things happen.

“In a matter of hours, authorities were able to safely remove around 250 people from Jilkminggan, and the Mataranka community was outstanding in their support to accommodate so many people at short notice. We thank everyone for their efforts and support today.

“Access to the community remains cut off and we ask that the public stay away until it has been declared safe. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will provide a further update in the morning.”
