Evade Police Arrest – Belmont / Perth CBD

A 33-year-old man has been charged after an incident this morning, Saturday 5 December 2020, in which the driver of a vehicle failed to stop for Police in Belmont.
About 12:05am officers on patrol observed a white Kia Cerato, which appeared to drive through a red traffic light at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Resolution Drive, Ascot.
The vehicle was followed a short distance along Great Eastern Highway into Belmont. The vehicle was observed to be driving above the speed limit and the officers attempted to stop the vehicle. It will be alleged the driver failed to stop and continued to accelerate away.
The vehicle was followed through Rivervale and Victoria Park, before it was driven across the Causeway into the Perth CBD.
A tyre deflation device was deployed at the corner of St Georges Terrace and Barrack Street, which successfully deflated two tyres. The vehicle stopped a short time later at the corner of William Street and Wellington Street.
The driver was arrested and it will be alleged he was in possession of approximately 1 gram of Methylamphetamine.
A 33-year-old man from Victoria Park has been charged with:
– Fail to Stop
– Reckless Driving (to evade police)
– Possess a Prohibited Drug (Methylamphetamine)
He was refused bail and will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Saturday 5 December 2020.
