Evade Police Arrest – Dianella to Perth

Regional Investigations Unit have charged a 26-year-old man after an evade police incident earlier today (1 September 2022), starting in Dianella and ending in Perth.

It will be alleged around 9:30am this morning, police sighted a black Holden Commodore in Dianella with a false number plate.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle and it will be alleged the vehicle failed to stop, and an evade police incident occurred. Ground units quickly disengaged and police air wing began monitoring the vehicle’s movements.

It will be alleged the vehicle drove through a car park in Watertown, colliding with a boom gate, completely destroying it.

The vehicle was eventually abandoned in an underground car park on Mounts Bay Road. Police conducted patrols of the area, including deployment of canine unit, however the driver was not located.

Around 12:15pm, officers from the Regional Investigations Unit were leaving their workplace at Curtin House for an unrelated matter.

These officers sighted a person who matched the description of the male driver, and an arrest attempt was made.

It will be alleged the man ran from officers, however the officers gave chase, and the man was apprehended nearby at Weld Park on Beaufort Street.

Inquiries into this vehicle and its movements are now ongoing. Particularly, police received reports suggesting the vehicle was involved in several minor collisions with other civilian vehicles.

The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man from Lynwood has been charged with various offences including:-

• One count of reckless driving to escape pursuit by police.

• One count of Driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation)

• One count of No authority to drive – suspended (other than fines suspension)

• One count of Drove, caused or permitted a vehicle with a forged, replica or false plate to be driven on a road

• One count of Used an unlicensed vehicle on a road

The man was refused bail and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow, 2 September 2022.
