Detectives from the Rapid Apprehension Squad have charged a 30-year-old man in relation to an evade police incident that occurred on 26 March 2024.
About 11.45pm, police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore sedan at the intersection of Grandstand Road and Resolution Drive in Ascot.
Officers activated lights and sirens, however; it will be alleged the driver failed to stop and an evade police incident ensued.
It will be further alleged the accused breached a red traffic light at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway at approximately 60 km/hr, and continued south on Hardey Road where he reached 120 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone.
During the incident a fire extinguisher was held out the driver’s side window, with the full contents deployed in the direction of pursuing police.
The vehicle came to a stop on Hardey Road in Belmont after crashing into a brick wall. The accused was arrested a short distance away hiding in the rear yard of a nearby home.
During the evade police incident, it was ascertained that there were five passengers, including an eight-year-old and six-year-old child who were in the rear seats unrestrained. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the crash.
The 30-year-old Rangeway man has been charged with:
1 x Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police
1 x Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (Circumstance of Aggravation)
1 x Endanger Life, Health or Safety of a Person
1 x No Authority to Drive (Never Held)
1 x Give False Personal Details to Police
He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 27 March 2024.
